Welcome to Week 14 of Stand Firm, a devotional to help us stay grounded as we enter into the daily, wonderful, difficult work of building his kingdom here on earth. I pray this devotional meets you right where you are and encourages you to remember your purpose and to firmly plant your feet (or move them) where God calls you to go.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Don't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadow boxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
As believers in Jesus, we want to live lives of intention and purpose. We want our days to be full of opportunities to love one another and engage the lost around us. We seek to follow Jesus into brokenness, even when it is difficult, even when it takes every ounce of strength we have. We know that this life of intention, order, and purpose is the life that God calls us to, and yet it is so easy to get wrapped up in what the world wants from us instead.
