The Simple Advent Download is at the bottom of the email! Enjoy :) `
During Kendrick’s first Christmas season with us, in 2017, we did a Kindness Advent Calendar, where we completed one act of kindness for each day of December leading up to Christmas. Since then, we haven’t really done an Advent calendar or practiced Advent at all because of busyness. But this year, I really wanted to do something leading up to Christmas. Maybe it’s that Eli is 2.5, so he understanding what is going on more. Maybe it’s because it’s KK’s senior year. Maybe it’s because Kendrick once told me that the Kindness Calendar was his favorite part of Christmas. But I felt really motivated to bring us together this Christmas through being together and serving others together.
For this Advent season, I made Christmas tags that you can print out for each day. Each tag has a different activity. The activities include lighting advent candles on the Sundays of Advent, starting November 26th (tomorrow!!), fun activities to do together, and acts of kindness. In our house, I am going to have the Elf on the Shelf deliver the activity each day. I’ll ask the big kids to help me get him set up for Eli to find him. I’m going to cut out the tag and put it on the string. The Elf will certainly get into some different kinds of mischief, but I am praying that it will bring connection, laughter, and playfulness this Christmas. If you’re looking to do something last minute with your family, this is for you! It’s super easy and you can pick and choose which activities you want to do each week. I also included a list of what you will need each week, as well as prayers that you can say as you light each of the advent candles. (I got our advent candles from Joann Fabrics for $5! There are also some on Amazon.) If you don’t have Advent candles, you could just cut out the candles on the document and hang them on your fridge as you read the prayer. Remember, the key to this is SIMPLE Advent! Have fun with it. Use what you want.
